On The Road Bike

Best of Slovenia and Croatia

Pedal from the sun-drenched vineyards of Goriška Brda, Slovenia’s “Tuscany,” down through rolling hills dotted with family-run wineries offering crisp Rebula and rich Merlot along the way.

As the route winds toward the Adriatic, riders trade vine rows for coastal breezes, arriving in the historic seaside town of Poreč with its Roman streets and turquoise waters. Along the way, refuel on authentic Istrian specialties — truffle pasta, fresh seafood, and locally pressed olive oil — served at charming konobas tucked into stone villages.

Accommodations

Rest each night in a place with its own character — the family-run Ščurek Winery estate in Goriška Brda, the elegant seafront Hotel Piran on the Adriatic, and the boutique countryside retreat of San Canzian in Istria.

It’s hard to put into words the experience that Blaž provided! Firstly, he is an excellent, very knowledge guide. His love of nature, adventure and his country is contagious and must be experienced if you are visiting Bled. I felt very safe and well looked after. The tour was about 5 hours and we ventured through parts of Triglav national park with some of the most beautiful autumnal landscape I’ve ever seen. We stopped at a local farm and restaurant with the option to try some typical Slovenian dishes! I can honestly say I will never forget this experience and look forward to returning 🙂

We had the greatest day with Blaz! A highlight of our time spent in Lake Bled. It was a challenging bike ride although his bikes handled the roads perfectly! The bikes were in excellent condition and easy to use! The pedal assist was nice to have on the hills! We strolled through villages and saw Triglav National park. Had a small picnic (local salmi and cheese) by a small beautiful lake. Honestly I loved this part the best because we had some great conversation with Blaz! He was full of interesting facts and taught us about the Slovenian culture. Thanks Blaz!! We also got to meet some of his best friends when we stopped for our Bled cake! Blaz is now considered our friend in Slovenia!

“… I am not normally one to rate tours as they can be very generic but this tour is a one off experience that you will not undergo if you were not with a local. …”

Jen B

An absolute must for anyone visiting Slovenia. I am not normally one to rate tours as they can be very standard and generic but this tour is a one off experience that you will not undergo if you were not with a local.
Blaz took us on the most fun and incredible bike ride suited to our ability and needs. He took us to all the beautiful places that tourists do not get to so you get to experience all of the beautiful areas to yourself. We met some local people along the way, learnt about the local culture and ways, ate the local foods & drinks.
Blaz himself was a incredibly caring man who will look after you for the day. Great conversation along the route.
Thanks Blaz 🙂

    FAQ

Don't see your question here? Contact Blaž directly at blaz@discoverbybike.si

Can you help with travel arrangements?

Yes. We arrange all transfers within the tour itinerary, including arrival and departure transfers from Ljubljana Airport. If you need help planning your flights or pre/post-tour accommodation, just get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction. We’re happy to recommend where to stay the night before or after the tour if you’re making a longer trip of it.

Where are you able to arrange the pickup at my arrival?

We arrange pickup from Ljubljana Airport (LJU) as standard. If you’re arriving via a different airport — Zagreb, Venice or Vienna are the most common alternatives — let us know in advance and we’ll arrange a transfer or advise on the best way to get to the starting point. Nobody arrives to an empty car park.

How many guests are on a tour?

Maximum eight. This isn’t a compromise — it’s the whole point. Eight people means everyone knows each other’s names by day two, the dinner table feels like a dinner table, and the experience stays personal throughout. We will never exceed this number.

What if I have to cancel my trip that I paid the deposit?

    We understand that plans change.

Deposits (2500€) are non-refundable and non-transferable, to make sure the charity amount will be reached, so all your deposits will be donated. Balances are collected 120 days from the departure date, and are subject to the following cancellation policy:

    • For cancellations made between 120 and 60 days from the departure date, a full credit of your balance (not including the initial deposit) will be carried forward for a future trip, to be used within two years or refunded.
    • For cancellations made between 60 and 30 days prior to the departure date, a credit of 50% of your balance (not including the initial deposit) will be issued towards a future trip within two years or refunded.

Can I contact you to ask questions about a trip?

Always. You can reach Blaž directly at blaz@discoverbybike.si or by phone at +386 51 888 058. This is a small agency — when you contact us, you speak to the person who designed the tour and will be riding with you. There’s no call centre.

Can I get a single room?

Yes. All accommodations on this tour are arranged on a double occupancy basis as standard, but no problem to arrange you the single room.

Do you offer different activities for before or after the trip?

Yes. If you’d like to extend your time in Slovenia before or after the tour, we can arrange additional riding days, guided experiences, or simply recommend places to stay and things to do in the region. Slovenia rewards slow travel — an extra day or two before or after is never wasted. Just let us know what you have in mind.

How much is the deposit to book the tour?

The deposit to secure your place is 2,500 EUR per person, payable at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due 60 days before departure. With only eight spots available, a confirmed deposit is the only way to guarantee your place.

How fit do I need to be for the tour?

You should be a regular cyclist who is comfortable riding 70–90 kilometres with climbing on consecutive days. The climbs are real and the days are full. If you’re riding few times a week and have some experience with multi-day tours or sportives, you’ll be well placed. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll have an honest conversation about whether the tour is right for you at this moment.

Van support will be with us all the time, so no worries to jump in a van if feeling like that.

What if very different levels of riders join the tour?

This is something we manage actively. The tour is designed so that the experience on the road is enjoyable regardless of pace — Matej’s presence on days two and three sets a naturally social and relaxed tempo rather than a competitive one. The routes have options for different distances on certain days, and our support van is always present so nobody ever feels left behind or under pressure. The goal is that everyone finishes each day feeling they’ve ridden well, not that they’ve survived.

Can I bring my own bike?

Absolutely. If you have a bike you love and ride regularly, bring it. We’ll arrange a professional bike fit at the start of the tour to make sure everything is dialled in for the week’s riding. If you’d prefer not to travel with a bike, we have premium WorldTour-level road bikes available — Bianchi Oltre RC specification — included in the tour price.

How will you fit my bike for my measurements?

A professional bike fitting session is included on the first afternoon of the tour for all participants. Whether you’re riding your own bike or one of ours, we take the time to get your position right before a single kilometre is ridden. If you have existing fit data or measurements from a previous fitting, bring or send them — it speeds up the process and means we start from a strong foundation.

How is the fit of Discover By Bike x Gobik Jersey?

The Gobik jersey fits true to size with a race-inspired cut — close fitting through the body with a slightly longer back for riding position. If you’re between sizes or prefer a more relaxed fit on the bike, we’d suggest sizing up. When you confirm your booking we’ll ask for your height, weight and usual jersey size so we can make sure your kit arrives ready to wear on day one. If you have any specific questions about sizing, just ask — we’d rather get it right than have you riding in something uncomfortable.
